ANTONÍN SLÁDEK
MOTTO: GALERIE LA FEMME PRESENTS PAINTINGS BY FOREMOST CZECH ARTISTS OF WOMAN AS THE ETERNAL INSPIRATION IN ART
Antonín Sládek’s many years wandering the streets of Paris weren’t completely wasted; he’s managed to use much of what he saw and experienced in the paintings he has since produced. Using caricature, exaggeration, and humor in an almost off-hand fashion, Sládek plays with the ordinary and mundane and manages to occasionally offer some insight into it. The exhibition is being shown at the La Femme Gallery which generally offers art work that is somehow connected (as the name implies) to the feminine. Sládek’s work has its share of women as subject, theme, and motif, so it fits well in this context. You’re not going to leave in awe, but there’s plenty to appreciate here.
